dumb criminal: Dumb Criminal of the Week - 03/24/09 01:51 AM
A "too dumb to be a criminal" bonehead award goes to Andrew Baca in Denver, CO.  In the middle of the night, Baca climbed onto the roof of a local pizza shop, took a running start, and dove headfirst into a ventilation shaft.  Unfortunately, the shaft narrowed and was filled with obstructions.  The pizza shop owner discovered him the next morning.  While Baca did avoid serious injury, he did not avoid serious embarrasment.  Firefighters were forced to cut his clothes completely off to rescue him.

A "too dumb to be a criminal" bonehead award goes to Adam Hardeman in Atlanta, GA. Hardeman was part of a cleaning crew hired by a local liquor store. After one week of cleaning the store, Hardeman decided to rob the store. He waited until night, climbed onto the roof, removed an air conditioning unit, and dropped into the store. Once he loaded up with loot, he realized he could not reach the ceiling, and the doors and windows were covered with bars. He was arrested in the morning.

A "too dumb to be a criminal" bonehead award goes to Shawn Lester in Charleston, WV. Lester entered a local convenience store, grabbed a soft drink, and walked to the counter. As he told the cashier that he had a gun and demanded money, another customer walked in. Sensing Lester's nervousness, the clerk demanded that he pay for the soft drink. Lester used his debit card, but signed the receipt with "John Doe." Police traced his debit card number, but didn't buy his excuse that he was only joking.
