Active Rain Is A "GOOD" Addiction

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Stop ItAddiction is loosely defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.

Is a real estate based social network like Active Rain addicting?

Oh, But It Is A "GOOD" Addiction.

For those of us that have just started reading and posting a few month's worth of blogs and are new to the whole blogging scene they can feel the pull. For those on one, two, or more years at this place, they know the effect.

I once chided myself in answering trivia questions with ease that it was a problem I had in life. I read too much. A schoolteacher promptly corrected me and said Gary, you can NEVER read too much. It is what makes you YOU, and allows you to share what your curiosity has discovered.

In addition to my first impression of this place being very professional, I found it to be highly educating. You can learn so much in many areas of real estate, technology, Localism, life, humor, and then there is just developing the online relationships which turn to offline with so many professionals around North America and the world.

Now the cessation leading to trauma part. That has me worried a bit there. Does the Betty Ford clinic have a wing for bloggers?

Are you enjoying this GOOD addiction?

I think Twiiter was created to help ween people off of blogging. I'll say that one backfired a little.

Well said, Gary, and so true.  And to answer your question about whether or not I'm enjoying it - - - YES I AM!

Sometimes AR feels like work - most of the time it's fun - all of the time I learn something, either from someone or about myself.

As good as it is, I still need to exercise caution.  It's just too darn enjoyable and very easy to spend too much time here. =)

It beats playing ZUMA all day. I swear, I'm up to Level 9.4 and can't move beyond. Oh, you mean blogging? That's just a given. It's what I do every morning -- akin to a cup of coffee. Can't start my day without it.

I just love it here on AR. Yes, it is addicting.  But,I've learned so much since joining.  Particularly, all the tools the members find and share...it is just unbelievable....I am way enjoying AR toooo much.

The points is interesting to me, too...I still know I'd comment...maybe MORE than 10 a day...lately, I can hardly even keep up with every day...I just am letting it be what it is right now...but when I'm back here, I love the connections with people, and LEARNING so much...I can't get over---every time---the excellent instruction, sharing, demos, insights, step-by-step guidance, etc. that is FREELY shared on this site. It always confirms that THESE are the colleagues & mentors I am most grateful for, helping me to build (& understand) my business, and it's always a thrill to actually meet some of these folks...they are exactly who they are---absolutely wonderful. I'm so grateful to have the best friends here. I don't think it's an addiction...it's an attraction, right? I think an addiction would keep me from doing everything else---but AR keeps me doing everything else better.  I always appreciate your wonderful posts, Gary.

Gary,

I think there are a lot of AR addicts....it might require more than a wing...most likely a very large hospital....LOL

Gary - I can't say it's a good addiction when it keeps me from doing all the other things I should be doing.  There are times I have to just say NO to blogging.

There are worse things to be addicted to, and at least this addiction can be profitable too. Way too many side benefits here that feed the addiction!

I have been to the clinic for blogger withdrawal and it ain't pretty.  So I decided not to try to stop.  To just go with it, enjoy the friendships and soak up the information.  xxoo

GAry,

I think this is a good addiction; my day is not complete unless I do my blogs and read other posts.

So the first step is admitting you are addicted, right?  No problem there, I'm admitting it.  I have an addiction and it's name is ActiveRain.  I agree, it is a good addiction though.  I am sharing and learning and growing my business with this addiction.

I have never experienced the addiction that others have to Active Rain.  Not sure why.  I was addicted to a small discussion forum and would post on it throughout the day.  I think it was because there was a back and forth to the conversation on a discussion forum.  On AR, you post and then people reply.  There isn't a lot of back and forth discussion.  I've learned a lot on AR, but just haven't felt the pull that some others have.
