I wanted to share some interesting things that you may not know about the State of Washington. I have included a link so you can research even more and find interesting facts about other areas that may surprise you!

Mount St. Helen's lost 1,131 feet of elevation in the May 1980 eruption and spewed forth about one cubic mile of dust, ash and debris.  The blast leveled over four billion feet of usable timber, enough to build 150,000 homes.

On the afternoon of July 4, 1947, Frank Ryman, an off-duty U.S. Coast Guard Yeoman, snaps the first photograph of an alleged flying saucer from the yard of his home in Lake City, north of Seattle.

Spokane was the smallest city in size to host a World's Fair in 1974

Seattle sells more sunglasses per capita than any other major city in the nation.

Seattle's houseboat population is the largest east of the Orient

The Lunar Rover, the vehicle used by astronauts on the moon was made by Boeing based in Seattle

Seattle was the first city in the US to play the Beattles on the radio

It is always fun to learn a few new fun facts to share!

I lived in Bremerton when Mt St Helen's blew, Dinah.  I was 9 years old (did I just date myself there?...oh well) and remember seeing a good inch or so of ash on the car and in the yard.  It looked like it had just snowed.  Thanks for sharing some interesting fun facts about the state.
