With Memorial Day upon us once again I know for most of us it is just another holiday where we are thankful to gather together with family and enjoy time away from work. We know that Memorial Day in May is for the fallen soldiers and Veteran's Day in November is for the current alive veterans. But we surely should take a little time to pause and reflect one, on what our military does with so many sacrifices for us all in doing their duty for the country and two, for those who did the duty in combat zones and didn't make it back. They were performing their missions, like it or not, defending our way of life. They accomplished their mission paying the highest cost, giving their lives. Families were left behind, flag draped coffins if there were them, sent back to cemeteries across our land. Tears shed but then by so many, what they did and gave, can easily be forgotten with the next news story of the day comes along.
Some so young, barely out of high school, men AND women, in all branches of the service. Some going back for more tours of duty or retirees or National Guard age 52 joining up for example and going to Iraq. We should pause, reflect and be thankful we have had heroes like this in our life.
This set of editorial cartoons was sent to me by a proud Marine real estate agent in our office. Semper Fi. Which means Always Faithful. May we always be faithful to THEIR memory.
