For Those Who Gave The Ultimate Sacrifice For Us

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

With Memorial Day upon us once again I know for most of us it is just another holiday where we are thankful to gather together with family and enjoy time away from work. We know that Memorial Day in May is for the fallen soldiers and Veteran's Day in November is for the current alive veterans. But we surely should take a little time to pause and reflect one, on what our military does with so many sacrifices for us all in doing their duty for the country and two, for those who did the duty in combat zones and didn't make it back. They were performing their missions, like it or not, defending our way of life. They accomplished their mission paying the highest cost, giving their lives. Families were left behind, flag draped coffins if there were them, sent back to cemeteries across our land. Tears shed but then by so many, what they did and gave, can easily be forgotten with the next news story of the day comes along.

Some so young, barely out of high school, men AND women, in all branches of the service. Some going back for more tours of duty or retirees or National Guard age 52 joining up for example and going to Iraq. We should pause, reflect and be thankful we have had heroes like this in our life.

This set of editorial cartoons was sent to me by a proud Marine real estate agent in our office. Semper Fi. Which means Always Faithful. May we always be faithful to THEIR memory.

Gary:  My favorite is the first cartoon you put up here.  Very poignant.  It's easy to forget in the joy of having a weekend off.  Shouldn't be.

I'm remembering...thank you for sharing this collection, Gary. I especially love the one about the REAL American idol...this is so true! Those soldier-IDOLS are the absolute best...the unsung heroes.

Gary, thank you. I just wrote in another post by Richard Weisser that I get very teary eyed on Memorial Day. So many young men and women gave up so much. I think of the history of this country, so many to say thank you to. From the revolutionary war to the current situation. And so many friends dead after Vietnam.

I will be saying my thanks on Monday.

Gary, Mine is a military family - my Dad, 4 uncles, many cousins, grandfather, great grandfather, and back thru the ancestry, many more. I always cry when I hear the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, or when I see video of our boys and girls coming home. It reminds me of waiting at the dock for my Dad's ship to come in after 6-9 months away at sea. Our soldier's and sailor's families sacrifice much as well.

Gary, a very nice reminder to us what this holiday weekend is about.  Our country has a voluntary military now and we are very fortunate to have so many willing to give all, and the rest of us can rest at night and grill those hotdogs, because we have such a great willing and giving military of awesome people, both young and old, men and women.  Thanks to them!   My hats off to all the men and women in our Military today and all the days past.

Gary, we will remember....

For the Fallen,

...They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Gary,

Thanks for reminding everyone, that Memorial Day is not all about picnics and BBQs. It's good to be reminded to remember the ultimate sacrifice our military members have made.
