Newton House Tour This Weekend

Newton Colonial Revival House with Copper Beech treeIt's house tour season in Massachusetts. This Sunday marks the 27th Annual House tour in Newton MA.  I'm doing my best to keep Sunday afternoon free because this is one of my all time favorite house tours.

Newton is a city of absolutely exquisite houses and neighborhoods.  Every year I go on this tour I find myself thinking "why would anyone want to live anywhere else?" It really is one of the prettiest towns I've ever seen - amazing houses and mature landscaping with enormous beeches shading many a house.

There will be eight private homes on this year's house tour.  The tour will include several neighborhoods and villages:

  • Newton Corner
  • Newton Highlands
  • West Newton
  • Newton Centre
  • Chestnut Hill

The tour benefits the Newton Historical Society and the Newton History Museum at the Jackson Homestead.

Tickets will be available at the Jackson Homestead, 527 Washington Street in Newton for $30.

The tour takes place on Sunday, May 31, 2009 from noon to 5 pm.

Liz - well I agree with you on Newton - a very attractive town. But then Cambridge has some wonderful properties, too. I never did a tour in Newton but when we were househunting we looked quite a bit. Not hard to fall in love with Newton.

Elizabeth:  It sounds like a really wonderful tour.  The home that you have pictured looks so "grand."  If I lived anywhere nearby, I would surely make this tour.  Thanks for sharing.  (By the way, do you prefer Elizabeth, or Liz ?  Just wondering)  :)  I think Elizabeth is such a pretty name.

Hello Liz, I hope you are able to go on the tour! I just love those old houses, so grand. I don't remember Newton much at all, but I am sure it is just as beautiful as the cities I do remember.

Hi Jeff ~ A little secret - the house above is in Cambridge - I'm planning to replace it with a Newton photo after tomorrow.

Hi Karen ~ Isn't that a beautiful house?  It's on a beautiful street tucked away near Harvard that I'm going to write about.  Newton has exquisite Victorians and turn of the century houses often with beautiful yards and huge copper beeches or regular beeches - my favorite trees.  And I go by Liz though use Elizabeth on my card, etc.

Hi Andrea ~ It's so hard to take the time at this point in the season.  I was bummed out when I looked at my own site that I had missed several but I hadn't a chance to entertain the idea of time off. This time one of my "house tour buddies" called me and we made plans.

Hi Pat ~ It's been one of my favorite hobbies for years.  My file folder of tour booklets I've saved is probably 8" thick. Should be good!

Hi Marian ~ It would be great to run into you on tour or at one of your lectures.

Thanks Silvia! The tour was great - absolutely beautiful neighborhoods, great weather and wonderful houses - some completely over the top - there was a whole lotta renovation going on in the last few years.

Hi Al and Peggy ~ It is an absolutely dreamy town - absolutely worth driving or walking around if you're ever in this neck of the woods.  It was a super tour.
