There is a swell that is currently hitting the south facing beaches including the Wedge in Newport Beach. Newport Beach is known for the Wedge, and there were some incredible waves. The waves were as high as 20 feet or even higher, and there were many body boarders, surfers who were riding those monsters. The Wedge in Newport Beach is located at the end of the Balboa Peninsula, and there is a rock jetty right next to it even making it more dangerous. The waves and surf are extremely treacherous, and are really only for the experts. There were lifeguards stationed along the water's edge, and the lifeguard boat was picking people up behind the waves.
Also, don't forget today is the last weekend for the Hurley US Open Surfing Championships. Also, that US Open should be amazing with this swell including the Wedge in Newport Beach. If you want to see more photos, see my album on Facebook.
