Johnston County Schools Will Not Eliminate Any Jobs
Johnston County Schools will not have to cut any employee positions this year, even with an estimated $4.6 million in budget cuts from the state. The budget adopted last week by the NC General Assembly includes a discretionary cut of approximately $4.6 million for Johnston County Schools, which translate into a reduction of funding for non-instructional support, technology, and Central Office administration. Local school officials said these discretionary cuts could have resulted in a reduction of 133 staff members. However, administrators and the school board planned for cuts early in the budgeting process this year, and all cuts have been absorbed through normal attrition, including retirements and resignations. Fortunately, Johnston County school leaders say there will be no reduction in employment of school staff members this budget year.
