Our Beach Took a Beatin'!

By

Nor'Ida stopped by Ocean City, Maryland a little over a week ago and overstayed her visit! Tropical Storm Ida pounded our beach, grabbed our sand and headed up the coastline, only after a 3 day long visit!

Pictures in today's local paper show that huge chunks of beach have disappeared, with 6 foot dropoffs being the norm!  It has been estimated that it will take $10 million dollars to bring the sand back inland from the Atlantic Ocean.

Having lived in Ocean City for a long time, I know that the Beach will be replenished way before our tourist season begins in 2010.  This tourist town has a very pro-active governing body that gets to work immediately whenever there is a need.

We're very thankful that our Sand Dune system was able to keep Miss Ida from dumping her 20' waves right in the middle of our island, and causing untold damage to the infrastructure and homes.  Let's get those Dunes rebuilt!

Kathy:  Ouch !  That is not good to hear.  Gotta get those trucks out there and bring all that sand back to the beach.  Do you actually LIVE on an island ?  How fun I bet that would be.  I would love to see some pictures !  Perhaps you can post a link to that newspaper you mentioned ?

Wow.  I just clicked on your office address beneath your name, and there it is !  62nd Street and Maryland 528.  You can even see the sign for your RE/MAX office, and the sign for JR's Place for Ribs across the street.  These satellite maps are just incredible.  Great pictures of the island, and the beaches.  The technology is just amazing.

We lost some of our beaches, too, to the erosion of Ida.  And we just underwent a major beach nourishment.  But I guess we'll have to do it again!

Kathy, Glad the cleanup is underway.  We can have storms on the Westcoast, but no Hurricanes.

How is everything now? My beach took a beating also. Our dunes did a great job though. Just glad we did not have much back bay flooding.
