Arrogance in recruiting personified- an ad that just is full of holes

I was blownaway by  a double page ad in my local paper.

A well kown real estate organization decided to boast about their great recrutiing results. Almost 1100 agents had joined them in 2009. If the truth be examined they would be sharing that 12 agents per office joined them or about one per month. That is hardly great recruiting performance. But there is more----

they listed every name of every agent aht joined them in 2009. What great prospecting opportunities for the competition. To list the names of every agent that joined a company is to give an open invitation to every competitor to make calls and develop relationships. It is just a bad move to show off in a way that exposes you to the potential of others.

Many in the industry think this particular company has dated itself in many ways and is behind the curve. This ad demonstrates an arrogance that goes beyond business strategy today. How many of these 1100 odd agents are making money the waythey should be due to the coaching they are receiving from the managers listed?

I would have rather seen an ad that sated that our agents earned X on average this year. They don't like those numbers as they look too pitiful. Too many they hire dont produce a thing. When you run an ad like this one, look at the PPP

I just wonder how those 1100 are going to survive.  When recruiting is done for quantity,  that isn't fair to anyone.  This is not a time to snow someone into getting into this business.  It isn't easy right now, and even the diligent are struggling.  Not everyone, but a lot are.  I truly think agents getting in right now should be working another job as well, unless they are going into a sucessful short sale and or REO team.

Steve - I've always wondered why so many real estate brokerages boast about how many agents they have rather than how much their agents are actually producing.  In the mortgage industry it's quite different; we are paid to produce and if we don't produce, our contracts are not renewed.

Here at Cobalt, we have an annual production we must meet in order to stay on year after year.  Maybe if more real estate brokerages operated the same way, we would see more productive agents rather more of the less productive ones.  JMHO

Hmmm I would say there is more to the story.  1100 agents, 12 per office or 1 per month is an accomplishment in many ways.  What was not disclosed in your message was the particular markets that recruited and what were their growth opportunities, it could very well be in this particular instance 12 per office and 1 per month was excellent numbers.

Showing that people still want to join your firm\organization is a strong message to promote.  PPP is something a "new to the business' person would not know to ask.

Too vague details gievn to be able to provide a fair comment via a short blog entry.

If you would like to tell me who the company is I would be happy to contact them directly to see if we could boost that number even higher!

Hope you are doing well!!!
