I've noticed a pleasing trend on the back of the holiday cards I received this year.
Let me back up a step - I've been pretty deliberate in the messages on my cards for quite a number of years. At times I've tried the 'homemade' route. In the last few years, I've been more conscious of the materials and source of my cards. That's why I'm reading the backs of the cards I'm receiving. And getting happy surprises!
Some of my favoritist people sent cards from their hearts and minds. For example, the card from Unicef which is made in USA. These are perhaps the nicest people I've worked with, so not surprising the extra depth of their purchases.
And then there's the ones made just for me. One friend sent beautiful cards on black papers that showed imagination and reflected the beauty of the sender too. I have 'made in the USA' cards from an exquisite friend living in Europe. Another card comes from Hallmark and boasts paper made from sustainably managed forests. I don't know if the sender was deliberate in the choice, but I think it shows someone becoming more aware of the need to be sustainable in the way we operate.
Mostly, I get extra warm fuzzies just from the idea that more people than just me are buying more deliberately. I'm grateful that anyone took the time to send me a card and I'm especially pleased to know they gave thought to the impact of their purchases.
