Peninsula Living: A short excursion to West Marin County

Wonderful, relaxing get away time for me this week.

After hiking Monday in the glorious sunshine on Mt. Tamalpais and Stinson Beach, my husband and I headed north to Point Reyes Station. Tuesday it rained all day, which allowed wonderful time to relax and enjoy our stay in the yurt, Windsong Cottage.   We chose not to hike in the rain (a departure from our normal habit!) but instead enjoyed the hot tub (fun in the rain!), getting caught up on sleep and having time for good conversation, a little yoga, and just "being."

We're ready to get out in the weather today for a hike before continuing our journey to Mendocino.

Pt. Reyes National Seashore and Windsong Cottage are just another couple of jewels I recommend when visiting the San Francisco area. This makes a great weekend getaway from San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley, too!

Lottie - Oh what I could do with a little relaxation in a nice little cottage right about now.  Point Reyes Station sounds like just the perfect spot.

Hi Grace --- next time you're visiting San Francisco, take a day and drive north about 1-1/2 hours to Pt. Reyes National Seashore--it's lovely.

Regina, yes, those areas are in Northern California. Mt. Tamalpais and Stinson Beach are in Marin County, about 30-45 minutes drive north from San Francisco. It was a marvelous get away--sometimes one just needs to chill, which the rain helped us do.

When my son lived in San Francisco a few yers ago, we took a Saturday trip to Marin County.  I remember being amazed that such wilderness was only minutes away from the heart of the city.  Glad to hear that you're taking time to enjoy the beautiful place you live!

Hi Kate - I'm glad you got a glimpse of some of the areas around San Francisco. When an area is built up as much as ours is, having so much open space and wilderness around is a huge plus. Of course, that's one reason our real estate prices are as high as they are!
