Because of a rise in the water rates charged by the City of Chicago along with other rising costs, the residents of Plainfield, IL will experience an increase in their village utility bills starting this summer.
Accompanying this increase, will also be a small 2-cent municipal tax on every gallon of gasoline that will begin on July 1st.
Plainfield officials discussed many options prior to enacting these increases, but ultimately felt their hands were tied by the large increases in Lake Michigan water charges passed on by Chicago ... rates that have risen 44 percent since 2008.
The average increase to a Plainfield resident's utility bill will be approximately $8.50 per month, if they retain their present water usage. Capital improvements and higher garbage service fees are also included in this rate hike.
It's important that Plainfield residents and all real estate sales professionals be aware of these upcoming rate changes within the village limits. Current and new home buyers alike should know the impact that these hikes will have on their cost of living and financial budgets.
