SELLER STAYED~TURNS OUT, IT WAS A GOOD THING!  Yesterday the first home that I showed, the Seller's chose to stay during the showing.  Knowing this beforehand, I was prepared for a quick visit from my buyer's.  Not so!

Surprisingly, the elderly couple were the most delightful people.  They were so gracious and sweet that we all immediately felt at ease.  Mr. Seller took us through the home and it was evident he was proud of his nest.  The best part was when he took us out into the huge backyard and pointed out all of the flowering plants that he has put in over the past few years.

I have to admit that I felt badly for feeling irritated at the beginning knowing this seller would be home.  This experience showed me that indeed this is "their" home and they have the right to be there.  It also showed me that there are times when this can be a great experience.  The icing on the cake is that this is most likely the home by buyer's will purchase!

Have a super week!  I for one at Bandier Realty Partners, plan on having a fantastic week!

Hi Paula, what a nice post; glad the showing turned out so well. Sellers often want to know to whom they'll be turning their well-loved home, wanting someone to love it.

Your experience was not the norm - usually sellers are too eager and talkative which buyers don't appreciate.  But it's nice to know it can turn out well and be a lovely experience.

I had an elderly gentleman stay during a showing last weekend, and the buyer absolutely had no interest in the home, and would have exited at least 15 minutes prior to the actual time we left.    He was obviously alone now, and very much enjoyed company.    So sad!

Lottie - I believe you are right, they wanted someone to love their home and were such genuine folks.

Margaret - sadly I have had my fair share of the unpleasant experiences with Seller's there.  It was nice to have the opposite.

Joan - I believe as agents we must never lose sight of the human side of our business.  It is sad when elderly people appear lonely and you know they are so anxious to have someone to talk to.

I'm often pleased when I know we're looking at a house the buyer should buy and we get to met the seller. I caution the buyer that we want to make a good impression in case there are multiple offers. Sellers can choose who they want to sell to for a variety of reasons (except excluded), and having met the buyer often doesn't hurt.

Although it is preferred that the seller leave for a showing, your case shows that the seller staying is not always a bad thing. As long as the seller is not overbearing, a seller demonstrating what makes his home special can actually be a good thing. Good luck with the sale!

NIce post Paula, I think Deborah makes a good point, most times whena seller wants to be present it is to pressure the lookers into buyers, this sounds like a very nice couple who really took pride in their home, that tells you volumes as to how well the property was maintained. Thanks for putting a smile on my face today

Ironically, sometimes when the sellers and buyers mingle about the deal, it does help to solidify the contract.  I'm glad it worked for you Paula! Cherise
