Outdoor Recreation in Prince Edward, Virgina - High Bridge Trail State Park
This beautiful rails to trails state park starts in Nottoway County and winds about 32 miles through Prince Edward County and Cumberland Counties providing outdoor recreation many locals in South Central Virginia. The high point (no pun intended) is High Bridge that crosses the Appomattox River at a height of 160 feet and is almost 1/2 mile long. At this time, the trail does not cross the bridge but will in the near future. The High Bridge Trail is open to hikers, bikes, and horses. There are seven parking lots along the trail at this time. The open trail starts at High Bridge in Cumberland and goes almost to Pamplin City.
My favorite parking area is the municipal lot in Farmville where you have just a short walk to Charlie's on the Waterfront Restaurant or our local diner for a great lunch. On Sunday's Charlie's has an excellent brunch starting at 11 AM and The Diner is open Monday - Saturday and serves great country breakfast.
