Ok, so you KNOW I dig technology, partially due to my previous occupation in that field.
Alas, Twitter, foursquare and Layar is not foreign to me, and now that Trulia has a Layar overlay... hmm, yes, testing that one out...
Ooops - off subject so soon.
What I really want to talk about is Twitter - you know - the thing where everyone knows each other as @something...
The first comment I get is "why"... And I get it - the question that is, why bother with this new fangled thing?
Let me give you an idea, someone once told me facebook is like a cocktail party - only you can get buzzed at home and if you don't want to give out your number, you can ignore people...
Twitter is a lot like that, the key is to work locally, in your area and get to know people around you. What you have access to, is an opportunity to converse with locals you would otherwise never have met.
Remember how we used to sponsor little league, so for the joy, and some for the calculated option of being able to talk to parents about real estate, you now who you are.
Twitter allows you to do the same thing - only it is free.
Ok - so now that I got your interested - let me answer that question - you get to the local people by using the search feature...
So, I live in Temecula - search for tweets with temecula in them... You will see something like "Passing through Temecula - long drive ahead" - ok, that is NOT who you want to follow.
However, you may also see "eating out in Temecula tonight at Penfolds", now you have local flavor... Follow that person, there is a chance they will follow you back, and by doing so, you potentially can expose yourself to their network... A big cocktail party here.
The other thing is to look for hashtags #, these are search terms attached to tweets - locally for me, #temecula and #temeculatweets are popular and used by a large group of individuals.
Now - finally - how do you meet people?
It is called a "Tweetup", and here, we get together once monthly - roughly - tweeters from all ages and walks of life, we have coffee or next time we will taste wine I think (here is the opportunity to get buzzed in public). Oh, and yes, those are now "Mets" in your database, many who hand you their cards and ask you to stay in touch, not just on Twitter...
