reBlogs now require commentary

Look. I'll be completely honest here. I don't agree with this change. How does this improve our community? I've shared my thoughts via blog-form here!

Original content by ActiveRain Real Estate Network

The reBlog concept is a really good idea, if used properly. When we first launched it, that idea was that users could pass on information from their colleagues to their readers and put their own little spin on the content.

If you reBlogged a post, it was our intention that you would add some commentary to the start of the post so that your readers would be made aware of what it was exactly about the post that you found interesting. You would let your reader know why you chose to share this particular post.

Now you have to share something. Posts can no longer be reBlogged without adding 25 words of commentary to a reBlogged post.

So what do you think? Is 25 words enough? Should we require more feedback in order to reBlog a post? Do you think reBlogging is the dumbest thing of which you've ever heard? Do you have no idea what a reBlog is?

I am ok with the change. The whole point about AR is to get people chatting about stuff. I can type 25 words pretty fast with my two-finger hunt and peck system!

I don't mind doing it either.  I especially like to give credit to the person who wrote the orginal blog.

Todd and Devona - No disrespect to your opinion but I do think it is something that should be implemented. It shows that someone is at least putting some thought into what they re-blog instead of just getting the 25 points. Have you ever seen how many AR community JUST RE-BLOG?

If a blog that was missed needs some more attention out in the world, AR is right about asking the community stating something about why they are re-blogging. If it has to be a word count minimum, so be it. 25 words is nothing.

I think this is a good change...I always put a little commentary at the beginning when I reblog a post.  I want to make sure that my readers understand that I thought it was important enough to post it.

Bryan/Paula/Ken/Lori and Bruce - No disrespect taken. We just don't agree. But don't you think the abusers will just do something like:

"Oh hey, while on ActiveRain I found this blog regarding home staging and thought it was a good read for sellers currently selling their property."

This commentary is mindless. How does this help ActiveRain by forcing our hand?

Yes but have you seen some posts re-blogged that don't have a thing? I have.

Ken - What exactly is wrong with reposting without a comment? I must admit I am guilty of that, but I fail to see the problem with it. The reblog feature credits the original writer, and if they have a signature on their blog that also appears.

If the problem is reblog abuse for points then limit the points one can get per day for reblogging. If AR limited reblogging points to two-a-day then the problem is solved.

By the way, I absolutely appreciate your opinion. Thank you for debating this with me.
