Jennifer Wilson hit me with a book meme the other day. My immediate reaction was that I don't read much any more, so what can I write about? I do read, but it seems like it is websites that take my time instead of books.
I used to read a lot, and have some favorite authors. One of my favorite books was Centennial, by James Michener. After I moved to Colorado, I read it again, as it was a lot more fun trying to figure out the areas he was talking about. I love almost all of Michener's books, even though they are a bit long!
Another favorite author is Leon Uris, but that is dating me a bit. He wrote Exodus and plenty of others I don't remember now. Once I found an author I liked, I would then go and read everything they had written. Then I would follow a theme, so the settling of Israel led me to Hitler and WWII and Cornelius Ryan's books, like The Longest Day and A Bridge too Far. I used to hear war stories from my Dad, so those books told me stories about familiar places.
I have always liked murder mysteries, starting with Agatha Christie (years ago) and now moving up to more contemporary ones like John Sandford and his "Prey" series of books. They are very gory books. I much prefer the genteel Agatha Christie and Miss Marple, although today's books are much harder to put down.
My favorite website would have to be Amazon, where I buy many of my books. Although I don't read a lot of fiction, I do buy a lot of books about artists and art. I paint in my spare time and enjoy reading about John Singer Sargent, Vincent van Gogh, Mary Cassatt, Renoir, Monet and Manet, among others. I enjoyed reading Lust for Life by Irving Stone (about Van Gogh) and Strapless, about John Singer Sargent, by Richard Ormond and Elaine Kilmurray.
I guess I spend more time reading on Active Rain than any other website and I learn more from it than anywhere else. It leads me into so many areas to explore and learn even more. My computer has become my library, my encyclopedia and my entertainment.
So I guess it is my turn to tag someone....
