Thawing out

I can just about feel my fingers again (7am - my first thankful thought for the morning). Local roads are crackly icy and very slick in patches. The temp in Midvale, Utah got down to MINUS 1 overnight, and here in Sandy we are at a warm 4 degrees (Weather Channel adds "feels like minus 4" - not that there is much feeling left at those numbers except pain). We are supposed to have a high of 17 today before another very cold night.

In amongst all this frigidity (frigidness?) arise some of life's ironies. I was able to observe a 3am pity party with a difference. Two coastal Texans, a Floridian and a Marylander had in the distant past all married Utah ladies, and somewhere in the nuptial contract had said to respective in-laws that they would return with brides to parents each year for Thanksgiving. They all felt that they were achieving sainthood for fulfilling their promises in Utah's minus 1, when their chosen States were all enjoying balmy weather.

Have a great Thanksgiving. But remember if you plan soon to visit us in Utah, please bring a coat.

Good luck with the cold weather. I am enroute to Hawaii - 82 degrees and 74 low. Maybe your family could meet there next year?

Oh Larry. That sounds very cold too me. Except for a week to "play" in the snow in Pinetop AZ and a few weekends "visiting" Flagstaff, I think I'll stay here in the valley of the sun until spring.

We got the frigid temps here on the front range in Colorado, but I'm thankful we didn't get the snow and ice.

Many years ago I remember that it got down to 17 degrees here in Southern Texas....my pipes froze, then broke...yeah that was a memorable year.

Thanks for comments. A day later at 7am its 8 F ("feels like 0 F") so all is well. Still nibbling on the leftovers from Thanksgiving. My wife excelled herself with three types of pie - all for me!

Bundle up and stay inside today! I hate to throw salt in the wound Larry but it was a sunny 78 here in middle GA yesterday.  It's been raining this morning but should be warm again today.

Oh, you wimps. Where my family hails from in Minnesota, 17 degrees is considered a heat wave. :)

But even that is too cold for me, which is why I'm in sunny Sacramento now.
