Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
and since we've no place to go,
Let it snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
This morning, the Chicago area found 4-5 inches of the white stuff on the ground... (oh, sorry, that wasn't very Politically Correct of me... the "Caucasian Stuff")... and I had to dig out enough pathways to get to the car... get to the alley, and enough trails for Gus-Gus to make it to his favourite "making" spots. (He's kinda small, and sometimes the snow gets taller than he is).
It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
and I've brought some corn for poppin',
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
The snow has beautifully coated the trees, the bushes, the fence... and there's ice on the sidewalk and the roads. This is the time of year (especially the first major snow) when the idiots come out of their hideyholes and try to relearn how to drive. "Turn into the skid, or is it turn away from the skid?... Feed a cold starve a skid? How does that go?"
When we finally kiss goodnight,
how I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home, I'll be warm.
So, I lit a large fire in the living room... stoked it to it's fullest. The warmth felt wonderful, and there's something so mesmerizing about watching a fire, and listening to it's snapping, crackling.... and at the risk of sounding like a breakfast cereal... popping. It's one of those comfort things for we who live in the cold climates. It's so mesmerizing that I didn't hear the sirens, nor notice that ... uh... I don't have a fireplace, and the fire was racing across the baseboards and reaching for the window-treatments.
The fire is slowly dying,
and my dear, we're still good-bying,
but at long as you love me so,
Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
We're gonna have to buy a new sofa, aren't we? And those drapes will never be the same.
