Pay it Forward -- even when you're not home.
I had planned to post a different Pay it Forward post this week. But you know how it goes, make a plan and hear God laugh. It's okay, just means I was Blessed to have more than one opportunity to Pay it Forward, who can complain about that?
I'm in Virginia this week, spending some much needed time with my Mom. We're having a lovely visit and I'm so grateful for this week.
I talked with CA the other day and she was in quite the mood. Seems the school her daughter attends was having a Santa's Shop as a fundraiser for the PTA. Now if you've never heard of this, it's a shop, full of mostly junk, where the kids can buy gifts for their loved ones. It's a neat idea, but CA is so practical it just doesn't sit right with her. She feels that if everyone can't participate then they shouldn't have it as a school sanctioned event. I'm working on her, but she's tough when it comes to this kind of thing.
CA volunteers in the classroom 2 shifts a week and has come to know a little boy in my granddaughters class that was not going to be able to participate. He had made a little list and the total came to $6.50. But it was clear he would not be able to shop. This troubled her and she spoke with the teacher to see if there was any way to get a donation from the PTA. Evidently the answer was no. She planned to send in some cash for him, but . . .
When we spoke I was honored to say -- "Great. I can help him and the school at the same time. Take some money from petty cash, say $15, and send it on shopping day. Let his teacher know it is to be anonymous."
Kids are my weakness, I'll admit it. And the chance to make a little fellow feel good about himself and get to shop with his classmates was just icing on the cake of what has already been a great week. It's like he gave me the gift. Isn't that what Paying it Forward is all about?
I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition. I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can. No more, no less.
