Asking Questions Builds Rapport

"Asking questions will get you

the performance you are after

far better than dictating demands."

 Dan James

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Asking question builds rapport

Asking questions give you insight to the person that your speaking and makes the person feel important.

Asking questions is a sign of respect and showing sincere interest in the person that we are speaking with.

In response to asking questions we form a relationship with the person and build rapport.

Rapport opens the door for continuous exchange of information and communication.

When we make demands of people often this can shut off open and honest communication with the other person and they may feel threatened, angry, or both. From that point forward communications, relationships, and negotiations breakdown.

Making demands can also jeopardize a relationship and close the door on future opportunities.

As we continue to ask questions we gather information. When that information is properly utilized we are seen as a problem solver.

As a problem solver, we help the other person and we gain momentum that continuously moves us in the direction of our goals and objectives.

Asking questions builds rapport and increases our performance and places us in a win - win situation.

Lou, asking questions also puts the person ASKING the questions... in control.  Questions can be very powerful... in establishing rapport... AND in closing situations.

Excellent post, Lou --- I find by asking the appropriate questions of clients you get closer to the truth.   Sometimes buyers and sellers will answer the question themselves.

One of the skill a real estate agent must have is Listening - Ask questions and listen. And ask another question - and listen. (Recent Buffini's webinar, this was discussed - ask NEXT question. What a conicidence!)

Perfect post for beginning of the week preparation.

A good reminder for real estate agents to ask more questions then shut up and listen. Too often agents think they need to talk to sell when in fact it's listening that is key.

And asking questions in our business is so important, to really find out the client's motivation and their needs as well!

We're now coming to a point(ten years ago) when I can see where I actually commented on one of Lou's posts when originally published.  Questions remain an important part of connection.
