Quinoa. Might as well be Foie Gras around here. Nobody knows what I'm talking about.
My husband wants to know where I've ever heard of such a thing. I do have three sons that live in Charlotte, Cincinnati and Portland...and that's where I first heard about it. They eat it and like it and it sounds like it's readily available.
Quinoa is virtually unknown here. I have been looking in the largest grocery stores here. We really don't have nearby specialty stores where I could search. A trip to Cleveland seems a long way to go to find this elusive grain that happens to be a complete protein.
Wait, wait, I found some at Meijer's grocery store yesterday. It was tucked in on a low shelf with the Mexican foods. I only found it because I was looking for another ingredient, chile garlic sauce, ( which also is not here), and stumbled upon it. Who would have known.
Now, I prepared it according to the directions on the jar, exactly. I think it turned out the way it was supposed to. But, I have to say, I am not impressed. The texture was ok, but there just wasn't alot of taste
So my question is......How do you prepare Quinoa? There must be a way to infuse more flavor. Can you use broth or stock instead of water? More salt? Different spices?
I really want to like it, now that I've finally found it.
So, what say you?
