building permits on Maui

You Asked - How do I get a building permit on Maui?

A building permit is required for the construction, alteration, repair, moving and demolition of any building or structure within the county of Maui (Maui, Lanai and Molokai islands).  Each structure on the property, such as retaining walls and fences, water tanks and sheds, will require a building permit, so plan ahead and do it all at the same time if you are building a new home on Maui.

Lucky for all of us, the County of Maui has a lot of info on their website:

Learn all about getting a building permit in Maui County.

Getting permits for grading, electrical, plumbing, driveways etc. on Maui

List of permit types and which department handles it.

Check on the status of a permit - knowing the permit type and number is helpful

I strongly recommend using a licensed contractor for your building projects, as these people are knowledgeable and skilled at working their way through the permitting process, which can be difficult for the average person.  Let me know if you need some names of reputable builders.

Georgina,  Looking at your blogs and blogging about my listing in Anguilla makes me, at times here in snowy Boston, a bit sick.  Spring has come to give us a slight reprieve in the last few days, but winter is not going away.  I like your blog and it gives me ideas about what I can do for the Anguilla property which has equally, yet different, laws and regulations.  Have a great weekend.
