I haven't been wearing my watch very often lately. It seems as though the correct time can be found everywhere, laptop, phone, car etc. My watch may stay in the drawer for weeks at a time between uses.
I bought my current watch ( not pictured ) 7-8 years ago from a nice jewelry store in Seattle. I spent a little more for this one with the intention of keeping it for decades and thereby justifying the investment. Now however, I wonder if it was a good investment because i hardly ever wear it.
The other day I went into the store to have the battery replaced. It was going to take a few minutes so the salesperson
seized on the opportunity to show me some new models. She said it may be time to upgrade to a finer timepiece replacing this outdated model. I was a little surprised at the prices and asked her how things were selling, are people really spending this much on a new watch? After all, the current time is available everywhere now, is it really necessary?
Her knowing smile said ' you are clueless my friend ' elegant watches are jewelry and a fashion statement for both men and women, the correct time is secondary. I guess that's true because sales are brisk and I continue to see ads in the Wall Street Journal everyday for outrageously expensive watches, somebody must be buying them.
Needless to say, I left with my old watch and a new battery. How do you feel about your watch, are you concerned about making the right fashion statement?
