I haven't been wearing my watch very often lately. It seems as though the correct time can be found everywhere, laptop, phone, car etc. My watch may stay in the drawer for weeks at a time between uses.

I bought my current watch ( not pictured ) 7-8 years ago from a nice jewelry store in Seattle. I spent a little more for this one with the intention of keeping it for decades and thereby justifying the investment. Now however, I wonder if it was a good investment because i hardly ever wear it.

The other day I went into the store to have the battery replaced. It was going to take a few minutes so the salesperson

seized on the opportunity to show me some new models. She said it may be time to upgrade to a finer timepiece replacing this outdated model. I was a little surprised at the prices and asked her how things were selling, are people really spending this much on a new watch? After all, the current time is available everywhere now, is it really necessary?

Her knowing smile said ' you are clueless my friend ' elegant watches are jewelry and a fashion statement for both men and women, the correct time is secondary. I guess that's true because sales are brisk and I continue to see ads in the Wall Street Journal everyday for outrageously expensive watches, somebody must be buying them.

Needless to say, I left with my old watch and a new battery. How do you feel about your watch, are you concerned about making the right fashion statement?

I have some beautiful watches but I wear them mainly as jewelry.  I am always using my cell phone for the time, so when the batteries died (and all are dead now) I haven't felt compelled to get new batteries.  I really should.

I often wonder the same things.  I've been able to find some very good watches for just a few hundred bucks....unfortunately, I have a horrible habit of losing or breaking them, so I refuse to spend more.  Also, the distance from which the watch is seen makes a few hundred dollar watch almost identical to a few thousand dollar watch.

After just 2 months ago (yet again) misplacing another favorite timepiece, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't spend too much on them!

Greg- A watch seems frivolous until your cell phone dies or you're away from a clock. Then suddenly, you feel naked without it. But in this day and age, it seems a clock or screen is never far away.

GOOD MORNING GREG!  I feel so bad - my husband bought me a watch a few years ago and I rarely wear it - with my phone, my car, everything - I find that I don't need one on my wrist.  Fashion statement - not concerned! -- G

Isn't that funny, Gregg?  I was just thinking about watches the other day thinking that a whole segment of what used to nbe normal must be obsolete by now.    I have never been able to wear watches for very often because I have some electrical charge in my body that kills watches, laptops, phones, you name it.  They last for months and that is about it with one exception and that is the SWATCH watch I had in high school  - LOL.  I don't wear a ton of jewelry most of the time anyway so I would never wear a watch for fashion and there is truly no need for a watch in this day aand age for me.  Have a great day!

Do not wear one.

Phone, car clock, etc.  But maybe I should, I seem to be 5 minutes late everywhere I go.  :(  It is my only bad habit - other than that I am perfect.
