Thinking I'm going to BURY my next lockbox....

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Realty Arts NC Broker License #235526

My back aches, and blood rushes to my head.

Pounding pressure in my temples

And, my glasses are trying to slip off my face...

And, I can't see the combo dial.

But at least it is raining, so my skin isn't drying out.

Hoping that electrical conduit is sound, and the GFI is operable,

Regretting holding 20 sheets of paper while trying to dial.

Resisting putting my knee down on the wet sidewalk,

But maybe I need to belly crawl to sneak up on this baby.

IMAG0237.jpg

And... I'm inspired

I'm going to BURY my next lockbox,

BURY it. Pour concrete over it.

Electrify it.

Behind the jagged holly bush

Under the leaky downspout

Next to the aromatic garbage bin

Preferably where there is an overhanging something

For agents to bump their heads on

To knock their glasses off

Yep that's it.

But... But...

But, all in all, it was a good day showing homes!

Fred,

It is common in this neighborhood, as there are few places to put the lockbox.

Mike,  I've had to pick them up buried in the dirt.  Amazing, isn't it?

Too, funny!  Reminds me of one I came across just like it only on an outdoor water spigot that was right above a sidewalk.  At the time I found it inconvenient but at least it wasn't likely to electrocute me!  Thanks for the laugh!

Elyse,

All I can say is, it truly was a cute home!

Brenda,

We had one on a spigot today, but the homeowner was there and let us in to view.  At least the spigot was waist high.

I've been seeing more and more close to the ground rather than on the door with a protective foam behind it to protect the door.

Hi Mike --- this is a classic!   I showed a house with the lockbox on a fence at a condo complex---not too low, not too high on the fence but right next to a large barking dog who could easily fit his head through the fence --- first I think it was too big per HOA rules and what were they thinking hanging the lockbox in that location?

Yes, some agents get "creative" of "where" to put the lockbox - but on an electrical line? Not too smart! Wow....

Todd,

At least it was accessible without stepping into mud or a flower bed.

Michael,

Maybe they bought the dog to protect the lockbox?

Carla,

To be fair, I only saw one other better alternative, and it would have required a chain.

I've seen lock boxes in some strange places, and cursed at a few!  I envy your sense of humor, perhaps that's why it was a great day!  Attitude is everything!

Laura,

Thanks!
Attitude is indeed everything!  I had a little fun writing this, but truly, the inconvenience was minor.

I had a home inspection the other day and the agent gave me the CBS code for the Supra box.

I arrived and found a lock box on the security door, the code didn't work.

I opened the security door and saw another lock box, the CBS code didn't work

I went to the side of the home and there was a lock box on the gas meter and another on a hose bib.

The CBS coded didn't work on either of those either.

Frustrated I called the agent and told him the code did not work on any of the boxes.

He asked if I tried the box on the water heater gas line in the closet on the north side of the home.

$%#! Why didn't I think of that?

Mike, I really have to wonder how many midgets (sorry they prefer little people) are licensed in your district?

Mike - I can not believe that you guys don't use the Supra Lockboxes up there???  If I don't have a place to put the lockbox, I have posts with special hooks for hanging the lockbox....and I just plant those in the ground near the front door.  Funny Post!!!

Denise,

We have been hearing rumors of Supra for a year or so, but nothing yet.  We really do owe a better level of security to our Sellers, though.

Thanks!
