Summertime in the Rockies brings lots of people out to enjoy camping in the mountains.
There have been numerous reports lately about the ongoing battle between man and beast.
This past weekend, there was a news story about some teens who were camping in their tents only to be woken up by a bear ripping through the side of the tent. One of the boys was scratched by the bear but they both made it to safety without further incident.
The park workers searched for the bear and reported that they "Put Down" a bear matching the description that the boys gave. Male bear, approximately 200 pounds.
While I am sorry for the boys, my heart sank a little at the idea of "Putting Down" the bear. First of all, how do they know this was the bear and why did they have to kill it? Did he have distinguishing marks which made him stand out from the other bears? Tatoos? Glasses? Red Hoodie???
Last night I heard a news story of a man who was walking through an unpopulated, grassy area in the foothills with his two year old toddler. He let the toddler run up ahead of him alone. A coyote ran up on the toddler and knocked him over and bit him in the back.
Now they are searching for a coyote matching the description so they can "Put Him Down". 
What description would that be? Wanted: a Wile E Coyote last seen chasing a funny looking bird yelping Beep Beep.
I feel bad for the toddler of course, but what rights do the animals have? If they find this Wile E Coyote, couldn't they just trap him and move him to another part of the foothills where parents wont let their toddlers wander aimlessly alone?
