The Darker Side of High-Tech Gadgets

By
Real Estate Agent

We are living in a world of high-tech gadgets, pardon me high-tech savvy toys.  Smart phones, iPads, iPods and what ever else is out there to take our attention away from being alert to the people around us.

If we are too engrossed in our cell phones, iPads or iPods in the presents of others it may send a message: I'm too busy to converse with you.

Can the excessive or improper use of technology be harmful?  The answer is a resounding YES.  Besides distraction there is addiction which can lead to an insatiable need to use these gadgets.  And in children among other things there is deception, lack of normal communication skills, losing the ability to interpret the facial expression, cyber-bullying, sexting and for all users a huge monthly bill.

Habits that are not wrong in themselves can sometimes put up formidable barriers.  We can use these high-tech gadgets almost anywhere and at any time but it does not mean we should.  The saying "There is a time and place for everything" still applies.  Let's use these high-tech gadgets wisely.

Dee, since I'm probably the most technically challenged person on all of ActiveRain, I don't have to worry about this much, LOL.

Hope all's well with you.

You are correct in what you say Dee.  Especially the children are clueless to the dangers.  Even though you tell to be careful they think they are safe in their homes.

Hi Juli,
It is so nice to hear from you, it's been a while huh?!  Most adults are mature enough to see the dangers.  Children however, are not and are susceptible to the dangers.

I wish I could say all is well, but it is not.  Nothing I cannot work through however.

Merline,
This is certainly not a one time thing, parents have to tell them over and over again, insist on it, stay on top of it because as I said they are not mature enough to comprehend the dangers, only in hind sight.
