Which Room Do You Prefer.....Purple or Animal Print?

As a real estate agent, we wear a lot of hats; Negotiator, Photographer, Inspector, and sometimes Home Stager. One of my recent homes had earth tones and neutrals throughout but one bedroom was the dreaded Lavender/Purple. So I suggested they change this room but they didn’t want to spend any money re-decorating.

There was a clutter in the corner behind the chest.

We searched their closets, garage and other rooms for the perfect accessories to re-decorate to a more neutral palate. We de-cluttered one wall of pictures and cleaned up the knick-knacks. Removed the chest and added a simple chair.

This makeover took about 2 hours and I was pretty proud of it when we finished. The homeowners were real happy with the results as well.

Which do you prefer…..Purple or Animal Print?

Please give me your feedback as I could be wrong as well.

It may be a personal preference so what do you think? Animal prints are pretty popular in the West but maybe not so much over the entire country and Canada!

Kristin, I am not a big fan of purple so animal print it is.. as long as there is no actual ANIMAL parts and no animal died to become decoration :)

I agree with you as I am a true animal lover as you are. The animal pillows are embroidered so no animals died to create this room. Thanks so much for the feedback.

Getting rid of clutter make a world of difference -- that is what is more important than the actual colors -- but that said, your re-do is nice .

The animal prints are more neutral and I think clutter removal was the best thing.

I would not have had a problem with the lavender since it was strictly an accenting issue. Should have been easy to tone it down and de-clutter.

Thanks for stopping to comment. I am glad you like the way my project turned out. It was a couple of hours and my clients are nice people. I hoped it would not hurt their feelings and afterwards they agreed it looked so much better and they were tired of the purple and lavender. Most of their clutter was stuff they didn't use anymore.

Thanks for stopping and commenting. I appreciate your opinion and I like the lavender color too but not in a room. Like I said earlier, it was my preference to rid the room of the color and perhaps it was my opinion and not a general consensus across the board. I like hearing your opinion as it makes me see that perhaps I could have just toned it down and left it.

Since it was a spare room and not a child's or mother's room, they had no problem making it more neutral and there was a lot of little lavender things everywhere. Now the room seems even bigger so hopefully the buyers will like it too.

Kristin, I definitely prefer the animal prints. I do like the color purple however not as displayed in the photo. De-cluttering is essential. You did an awesome job! I hope your clients appreciate all of your talents!

I think you did a fabulous job and love how the animal print looks. The only reason I would change it were if it is all you look at when you come into the room. You want the focus on the room not the bedspread.

This way makes the room look bigger. I could only go one other way and it looked boring and nothing on the wall. I think the artwork is the focus. We tried it both ways.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I like animal prints and love elephants. I have quite a few in my house too. This make-over did not cost anything as it was items they had in other areas of their home. Was I ever lucky to have good colors and pillows to choose from.

I didn't use bold paintings or rugs and the chair is a stripe of brown and black so the only animal stuff is a few pillows and a clock and owl statue. I think the bedspread is toned down a lot too. Thanks for stopping and I love the flowers. Have a great week.
