Pennsylvania Plaza, found between 31sts and 34th Street and Seventh and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan, is one of the famous landmarks of Manhattan. Consisting of One Pennsylvania Plaza, Two Pennsylvania Plaza, Madison Square Garden and the underground Pennsylvania station, the plaza houses a healthy mix of entertainment venues, commercial enterprises and corporate headquarters.
Penn Plaza was built in the place of the demolished old Penn Station. The old Penn station was destroyed in 1963, leading to widespread criticism of the clandestine manner of the demolishment of Penn station. As such, many have publicly proclaimed Two Pennsylvania Plaza, the building that stands directly on the site of the old Penn Station, as their most hated building in Manhattan, New York.
Grievances aside, it is noteworthy that Madison Square Garden holds the honor of being the longest active sporting facility in New York. Officially opened in 1968, Madison Square Garden hosts more than 300 sporting events every year. World-famous sporting events such as NFL and NBA have been hosted in this venerable sporting arena.
The area is also home to many corporations and organizations – MSG Network and the Association for Computing Machineries are just two of these organizations that have decided to name Pennsylvania Plaza as their home.
