Visiting the Silversmith in Colonial Williamsburg

In the 18th century in Colonial Williamsburg, buyers had to plan ahead for their jewelry and silverware purchases since they all had to be hand made to order.  During our recent visit to the silversmith, they were demonstrating the crafting of a silver goblet.  This is a very interesting place to visit on your next trip to Williamsburg.

Please share photographs from your favorite places in the comments for this post. Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture those special moments.

Best wishes to all for a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Roy, your photos brought me back in time.  Something to be said about automation and yet, there is something to be said for "square one".  Love your photos!

So intriguing. I have always wanted to visit Colonial Williamsburg... it's just so far away from here. I really enjoyed your photos of the silversmith.

Amazing photos. I love the time period. History is so exciting. We don't have historical places like that. Our historic homes were built in 1979 in Wellington:)

Thanks for your comments.  Dolores and I encourage all to include Colonial Williamsburg in your vacation plans.  The area is also a favorite retirement destination.  If we found the right home in the area, we would probably purchase there.

Happy Holidays!

LOVE IT!  I visited on a side trip for a convention in Norfolk back in 2000.  It was just for the day and could've spent days there.  I bought a cookbook and handmade soap and a little blue book that tells about where are the sayings & social communications & interactions we use today came from.

One of them is about elbows on the table and the reason it's rude is because the table was frequently also the front door, taken down and put on two saw horses for dinner.  If you rested your elbows on it, it could possibly tip and upset everything.  Isn't that funny.  Absolutely no reason not to do it today other than it's considered rude.  It's on my list to take my children to see.  Loved every minute of it.  Thanks for bringing back such a great memory!
