The Gentle Art of Persuasion

“I like to think of sales a the ability to gracefully persuade,

not to manipulate, a person or persons

into a win-win situation.”

Bob Bennett, author

As I see it . . . . . . .

The gentle art of persuasion

People love to buy but they hate to be sold. There are times in order to help the customer to take the next step they may need a helping hand to make the decision. When we arrive at that point they may a little persuasion to help them move forward.

Persuasion is an art that enables us to help our customers to clear a hurdle or to overcome procrastination to move forward. For some of our customers making a decision comes easy and for others to can very difficult.

For some customers decision making can paralyze them into inaction and in order for them to take the next step they need someone to help guide them through the decision and sales process.

In order to influence our customers in their decision making process they have to have confidence in us. We also have to be on a solid footing of trust with our customers for them to listen to us and accept our advice.

The art of persuasion is to influence our customers in a positive direction. For them to consider and accept our advice we have to be in rapport with them.

Lou,

Not too many people like the hard sell. Soft touch is much more appropriate.

I am a big believe in the "win-win" scenario.

I agree with Laura, politicians could use this advice.

Soft selling skills work, the hard sell is old school and is not effective.

Good luck and success.

Win - win is definitely the way to go. Those who think win - lose are only prolonging the negotiation or destroying it. Enjoy your day! Washington could well heed the lesson!
