SOOOOOOOOO TRUE!!
"... remember how many people have had access to your house keys before your Escrow closed."

Great advice posted here by
Mike Martin, who has twelve years of real estate experience, works with Tri-County Residential Group in the Fontana, CA area and specializes in SHORT SALES. Mike's reminder about new keys is an essential part of counseling our Buyer Clients about a move.

When purchasing a FannieMae property, the contract includes a fee charged to the Buyer for re-keying.
Obviously, FNMA, a large entity, does not want any liability due to dispersed keys.  We as agents should always remember Mike's excellent advice for our individual Clients.

House in a carton Atlanta Metro ODAT Realty CDPE Advanced Buy Lease Sell Buckhead Atlanta GAWe focus on many things about MOVING DAY, such as having a friend help or getting the right truck or ??? Before actually beginning the MOVING DAY, new keys
are a MUSTWe always discuss gifts for the Buyers - a REKEY would certainly be a practical gift, wouldn't it?

Thanks to Mike for the focus on this safety tip!
Have a happy day -

Don't Forget to ReKey Your New Home

ReKey Your New Home

Did you get a new home in Fontana this year for Christmas?  If the answer is yes, then Congratulations!!!

Hopefully, you are starting to win the battle against what seems to be the never ending stack of boxes and you’re close to settling into your new home.  Before you settle all the way in, don’t forget to add having your locks rekeyed to your “to do” list.

A lot of Buyers overlook this but you have to remember how many people have had access to your house keys before your Escrow closed.

Yes, the Sellers were nice people, but what about their housekeeper?  All the Agents that showed all those prospective Buyers?  All the repairmen?

I'm not trying to freak you out, but you know we don’t live in a world that's comprised of only nice people.

For your family's personal security, take a minute to get the locks  rekeyed on your new Fontana home.  It may cost you somewhere between $100 to $200, but that’s a small price to pay for peace of mind!

Merry Christmas

Lynn: Excelllent choice for a re-blog. I am not aware of a re-key fee in our area. However, the buyer still needs to take the responsibilty for this task. Not a sexy closing gift, but very helpful to young clients short on funs!

You guys are so right.  I guess it pays to know a good lock smith.  And, locksmiths should try to meet real estate agents.

Lynn, you and Mike are so correct when it comes to rekeying the locks on your new house.  A small price to pay for peace of mind.

I always tell my clients that to be on the safe side they should rekey.  You never know who has a "spare set"----a neighbor, an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend, the babysitter, etc.
