Driving Traffic to your Facebook Apps

Now that you’ve switched your page over to the new Timeline style you can no longer set the “Default Landing Tab”.  In case you didn’t know, you could determine which tab or app anyone who had not yet liked your Page saw first.  That popular feature was discontinued by Facebook but that doesn’t mean the “Welcome Tab” is dead.

Here’s a five ways to drive traffic to your fabulous Custom Facebook Welcome tab.

STEP ONE:  Move your Apps so that the ones you want people to click on are up at the top.  You can’t move “pictures” but the next three that show are up to you.

STEP TWO:   Change the picture of the App.  Click on the pencil edit.  The popup will give you the ability to change the Name of the App and upload a new picture.  The max size of that picture can be 111px by 74px.  On mine I placed a text overlay call to action.

STEP THREE:  Grab the unique URL.  While you may have a vanity URL for your Page, each App has it’s own unique URL as well.  That means that instead of sending people to the Timeline of your Page you can send them to the App on your Page instead.  Remember, a LIKE is still a LIKE.

STEP FOUR: Get a short link.  I like Goo.gl because I can track the click, the referral sources, and even the browsers they are using.

STEP FIVE:  Now go find everywhere you have a link to your Facebook Page and replace the url with the shortened version you just created.  That means all the widgets on your blog and your profiles on other social media sites.  Don’t forget your email signature as well.  Every link going to Facebook should go to your Welcome App.

STEP SIX:  Have a Custom Built Welcome App.  What do you need on your App?  That depends on your Page and it’s focus.  There are several ideas behind a Welcome Tab.  Are you looking to convert Visitors to Likes?  Your App should have a Call to Action for just that.  Or maybe your Page is looking to encourage engagement or lead capture or perhaps it’s just to drive people back to your website.  Each Welcome App is different, there’s no right answer.  My Welcome App sells product.

Does that make sense?  Great!  Now let’s get to work building that Custom Facebook App for your Page.

I still need to get to this since my thumbnails up there are all over the place.  Haven't even chosen a cover for any of my biz pages.  Thanks for providing the basics!
