Ever wonder what the real difference is between Google Ads and other forms of paid advertising like the ads you see on Facebook, and LinkedIn?
Google search ads are usually shown when a user types in a specific keyword (i.e. New York Real Estate) and these types of keywords can cost a pretty penny if you want to show up on the first page. The more popular the keyword, the more companies are willing to pay for it.
Social media sites (like Facebook) on the other hand, use demographics to dictate when your ad will be shown. Instead of listing out 100 or so potential keywords, you can choose the audience you wish to show your ads to (i.e. 35 and up, female, lives in NY, likes music etc.) You can even show an ad to a group who has liked a specific business page on Facebook (like your competitors). LinkedIn works in a similar way.
These sites have a ton of personal data at their fingertips, which can be extremely valuable to advertisers. But are visitors in the right mindset to buy or shop when they are on Facebook? Are we better off showing our ads on a page where the user expects to see ads? These are questions that can be answered through diligent tracking and testing, two things that are a must with any online ad campaign.
As far as search engines go, Google has been leading the pack for a while. Showing relevant ads near the top of the first page when a user searches for a specific topic is still king when it comes to generating traffic and leads.
However, the search page is not the only place your ad shows up. In fact, you may not even be aware of the fact that at least 25% of your traffic is coming from other websites that are displaying your ads.
Display ads are now over a $5 billion dollar business for Google and growing rapidly. What you may not realize is that you are able to use this vast network to show your ads on specific websites that fit your niche or target the right audience.
In this week's Agent Secrets video, I look at the differences between the Display and Search network within AdWords and how you can pick and choose which sites you wish to advertise on based on their relevancy. This is a great option for those who have a very limited budget and are looking to generate some hyper local traffic to their site.
This video goes live today, Wednesday March 21st, at 2pm EST.
