Beardsley Zoo Hosts CT Make-A-Wish Walk For Wishes
One of the most heartbreaking things that can happen in life is to be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness as a child. Not only can it be incomprehensible to the child, but it robs them of the hope and joy of living a full and rewarding life. The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and its many local chapters is to give back that hope and joy to as many of these children as possible, and we have been volunteers with the Connecticut chapter for some time. Pat is a Wish Granter and has found it to be one of the most gratifying things she has ever done.
From time to time, the Connecticut Make-A-Wish chapter holds various fund raising activities throughout the state to aid its mission, and we are proud to give this one the attention it deserves.
On Saturday, May 19th, from 5:30 to 6:30pm at Bridgeport's Beardsley Zoo the CT Make-A-Wish chapter will hold a Walk For Wishes, a non-competitive walk through the zoo and its many exhibits on your way to a private Wish Celebration with food, music, kids activities and carousel rides. registration is currently taking place and donations are already pouring in, with more than $18,000 collected so far. The cost to walk is $10 per person which includes entrance to the zoo, a T-shirt commemorating the event, parking and access to the private Wish Celebration after the walk. Kids 3 and under, Wish Kids, Wish Parents and Wish Siblings are free.
As previously mentioned, registration is ongoing by clicking here, or you may register on the day of the event from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. You can register as an individual, start a team or join an existing team. If you are unable to attend but still wish to take part, you can even register as a virtual walker and collect pledges from your friends and family towards this worthy cause. I have registered to collect pledges with a goal of $500 and have a dedicated web site for it at Wayne's Walk For Wishes.
