The Eye of the Iris...Silent Saturday

Every morning lately in Balsam, NC a new Iris unfolds into all its glory. All views are beautiful but I like getting up close and personal with the new blooms.

This particular Iris was folded up tightly in a green bud the night before I shot this photo. Then, first thing in the morning I was looking into the eye of the Iris.

You sure do know your flowers, Mona All the pictures you take of them are pretty, but I have no idea what most of them are called.

Hi Mona, That is a terrific shot. Do you supose a human that was charged with the task, could design flowers as beautiful as what now exists? I can't even imagine it. Seeing this and then really seeing it, it is almost magical.

Jill, I think Roger Mucci would disagree with you on how well I know my flowers, lol.  I have a handle on most of those at my house though.

Alexandra, thank you. I really like the violet against the yellow. Pretty dramatic.

Hi William, Thank you William.  No, I think Mother Nature is all powerful and knowing when it comes to design work.

Mona, the girls and I squee every morning when we step outside and see something else blooming! I love lilies - have a whole bed full of day lilies. I find it amazing that they are perfect for just one day.

Mona - it is a bit unusual to me. I have not seen yellow irises before. Beautiful

Andrea, I thought I was the only one who squeed when new blooms pop open!  Our highway department plants day lillies along our state roads, as well as wildflowers so everyday is a treat when driving.  Maybe they grow differently here but the blooms stay beautiful for a good long while.  Maybe not perfect but still darned "purty".  Have a wonderful day with your children.

Jon, thank you.  We also have a completely yellow iris and the next time it blooms I'll try to get a photo just for you.

Good morning Roger, you keep me humble and that's a good thing!  When will you be in FL again?  east coast, right?

Enjoy your day Wayne!  I always appreciate your comments.  My favorite way to photograph flowers is like this...very up close and personal.  I wonder if that is a commentary on the way we do business too?

What is really neat is that we never planted this Iris.  We have had these Iris's coming up every year since we've lived here and they have always been purple.  But this year this one and the other one came up yellow.  Never heard of such a thing happening. Cool, huh?

Leslie, I was surprised too.  It is very cool.  Hard to believe these Iris bulbs are probably 30 years old at least.
