A bit of paint .. the before and after never ceases to amaze me

I love projects and I love to paint. There's always something in my house that needs painting (because I said so). Give me some sandpaper and a paint brush and I'm a happy girl. Paint, at a minimal cost, can have the biggest impact, the power to transform. It can give something old and worn new life. It can turn something bland into something interesting. It can add curb appeal, create focal points and personalize a space.

The right color can make your entrance pop or brighten a dark room. Accent walls can make a room appear bigger and add interest. Spray paints can transform outdated light fixtures or weathered outdoor accent pieces. There's just so much one can do with just a bit of paint .. the before and after never ceases to amaze me.

Just take this bookcase for example. It was sitting in my living room for a number of years without ever quite fitting in. For a while now I've been thinking about what I could do with it. Some people would give it away, others set it out at the curb ... and I? I paint to make it fit a space or to put it to new use.

As it so happened, my youngest daughter needed a bookcase for her room to hold her growing collection. I could never quite find the perfect piece while out shopping (or the perfect one came at a hefty price-tag). So I decided to reuse the old bookcase and transform it to fit her taste and decor. My daughter had a say, of course, and after much back and forth she decided that black was not the best color choice and settled for yellow. But only if mom could paint some flowers on it, too. I was happy to oblige... here's the end result:

It's amazing what a little paint & time can do. Nice job on that bookcase. I'm afraid to tackle projects like furniture.

Why thank you Brenda! :-) I've always liked to be creative and I love to decorate .. refurbishing furniture has become a hobby I so enjoy. Only problem is, I'm running out of space and I so wish I had a proper workshop!

Hi Carla, it's always fascinating. And the best part is, if you don't like the paint, you can paint it again! Thank you!

Great job, Andrea.  I love a freshly painted space, but I'm not a big fan of painting.  I do it pretty well, but I don't go looking for opportunities.  It's always nice to see those who do.  8=)
