The year is 1789. The place is Versailles in France. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette gaze out of their ornamental windows. France is in financial crisis and the French people are in chaos. France wants King Louis and Marie Antoinette to leave their reign and leave the palace. With people rallying outside the windows of Versailles, Louis and Marie think back to when they first lived within the intricate walls of the palace.
The Rococo era was ending and a new one beginning. The reign of King Louis XVI started in 1774 and so did the Neoclassical period. The Neoclassical era shadowed the charm and some of the design elements of the period before, while leaving the Rococo curves behind. The time of Louis XVI (1754-1793) and Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) conveyed a whimsical and almost child-like time. The interiors of Versailles were painted in pale colors and dusted in gold and silver. Antoinette had a heavy hand in the Neoclassical influence. She was completely inspired by the Rococo period, but wanted to make an era of her own. From 1774 to 1789, Antoinette was the visionary for Versailles. She loved anything that was intricately detailed and beautifully painted. To say the least, Marie had style, but expensive taste.
