"Can I call you back in a minute?"

By
Mortgage and Lending with Diverse Solutions

How many times have you caught yourself uttering these very words?

The phone rings and almost instinctively you say:

"Hi, who's this?

Can I call you back in a minute?"

Let me just issue a very sharp warning...

Today's eager consumer wants answers now! They want solutions now! If they've taken the time to read your website and call you, it signifies a greater degree of commitment. Sure some of these leads will amount to nothing, but others, well...you just never know!

Don't get caught red handed saying "I'll call you back in a minute" only to return their phone call a day later! If you have to write their name and number down on a post-it and stick it on your computer screen and/or on your rear-view mirror or stereo in order to remember, so be it!

Either way, just remember, that every new lead is a new relationship asking to be nurtured and cultivated. Like a parent to a new born, give them the attention they need and deserve!

If the source of your leads is your social media marketing efforts, they require that much more attention!

So, what are you doing to nurture your leads?

Excellent advice, Ricardo. And it's even worse to not return the call for a period of time. I know I hate when folks say they will call right back and it is hours or longer. I have had more people than I can count thank me for being so prompt to get back in touch, on the phone or via email. But there have been a few cases where I was not so prompt. Not good.

Always better to return the call AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - within a half hour if possible.  If not, tell the person that you are going to call them back at a certain time, and DO it then!

I just atteneded a seminar where they covered internet leads.  An internet lead expects a response within an hour -- otherwise, they often start looking for other solutions.

Jeff: I'll admit I'm guilty of the having done the same but hey, we learned from our mistakes!

Karen: you make a great point: If you can't call them back in literally a minute, give them a specific time at which you'll return their call!

Peach Grove: it's true! I had a referral I was giving to someone out-of-state... I must have called (4) four different REALTOR®'s and I gave the referral to the one that returned my call first!

Just think about it, consumers must be doing the very same thing!

Oddly enough I never say that. I continue what I am doing and let the message go to voice mail. I give full attetion to the person that I am with. I focus on the task at hand. if I am with a client for three hours than the calls wait for me to finish. Then I return calls and focus on each. Other realtors hate this but my clients enjoy the attention.

Great advice. I get tons of business from lazy realtors who don't call back people OR I'm the first and only to call.

I had a lady leave a message one time that said "whoever calls me back first "gets the job.

Sharon: It's like the saying "move it or lose it!" If you don't call back...too bad!

Wayne: my sentiments exactly!

Eric: I think you know where I stand on this one! I care about the client! Not what other people think.

LaNite: sounds like what Broker Bryant would say, "Hi. I'm your new REALTOR®!"

Cindy: when referring listings out-of-state, those are my sentiments exactly! Though I've never actually come out and said it.

Prompt response is the only way to go, a delay will cost you Dearly.  Yes any new lead will have to be nurtured and this is crucial in the present climate.

Sandi: I appreciate the compliment!

Who "wouldn't" want to visit The Pink Couch when it's so comfortable there?

Jennifer: Unless you want your fellow colleagues telling your prospects: "Hi. I'm your new REALTOR®!" Then you'd better answer that darn phone!

Ricardo, you are so right on this one!  Whenever I call as a customer and hear that, it's "Oh, yeah!  Sure!"  and I'm amazed when I do hear from them in a minute.
