According to the National Association of Realtors  “Ninety-two percent of all home buyers consider energy efficiency at least somewhat important with 46 percent of all home buyers ranking energy efficiency as very important when considering a home for purchase. Increasingly, consumers’ preferences for products and services reflect awareness in energy efficiency, even extending to those looking to purchase a home.

This statement can possibly be the reason we are seeing more Energy Efficient Mortgages for Reno Home Buyers. Buyers that know of this great program are seeking Reno Real Estate professionals that are able to assist them in getting an EEM. The Reno real estate market has been slow to adopt energy efficient mortgages but it has been steadily picking up. With the amount of older homes and many cold months Reno is a perfect climate to take advantage of the FHA Energy Efficient Mortgage, which finances energy retrofits at the time of purchase. Add this to rebate programs and it’s amazing how receptive buyers are.

If you have read any of the other things I have wrote about the EEM you will know that as a Licensed Energy Auditor I will not only look for more way to be efficient but also ways to make the house more comfortable, healthier, and durable.  Since 92% of home buyers think energy efficiency is important they probably would like to be informed that buying a home 12 years or older might cost them more in energy. The good news is this can be addressed with an EEM. Many studies have shown homes with energy retrofits sell quicker and for more money.

If you’re a buyer and want to know more about the EEM process and what agents and lenders are involved with this process please contact me.
