Jon Zolsky: Он может более подробно обсудить с Вами эти вопросы

By
Real Estate Agent with HER Realtors

Yes, you read that right. "Он может более подробно обсудить с Вами эти вопросы."

That says "he can discuss these issues with you in more details."

Jon Zolsky said so.  Jon Zolsky translated the sentence for me.

Russian writing

Jon Zolsky a Daytona Beach, Florida real estate agent commented on  a post about a blog post with 452 spam comments.

John is from Russia, that must be Russian.

I was worried about what "Он может более подробно обсудить с Вами эти вопросы." translated to.

Jon reassured it me it was not about sex or drugs.  Or at least that line was NOT.

Thanks Jon!

So if you get something like that in comments on your ActiveRain post, Jon Zolsky's the man, "Он может более подробно обсудить с Вами эти вопросы."  Jon can discuss these issues with you in more detail.

Closing Comments on Old posts on ActiveRain

The old post with 452 spam comments has been cleaned up.   I am beginning to close old posts on ActiveRain.  I did May 2008 last night.  Or maybe it was March 2008.   Or was it 2009?

An old post about Jon Zolsky's ankles.  Kind of.

Very creative, Maureen!  I don't think I am a very prolific blogger to worry about spam comments on my posts.  Perhaps when I receive one I will know I have arrived as a blogger!  Jon is very creative and I love reading about his stories from Russia and the old Soviet Union!

I don't know if it has much to do with "prolific"  I think being on ActiveRain for any length of time can make your comments a target, unless you keep outside comments closed. I hate to do that.  A lot of abandoned AR blogs get a lot of spam on AR, or were.

I have got so many interesting comments from "lay people" (not in the real estate industry) about the communities I write about.  You've been here since September 2009, you could start seeing spam.

Jon is so interesting and he certainly is able to "discuss these issues with you in more details" on some interesting subjects.

Maureen, does one get a comment notification on one's home page if it is spam, or does it slip under the radar?

A couple of months ago Bob Stewart told me we were not getting notification anymore because of a new secret weapon.  Bob Stewart wrote in a comment on one of his posts where we were discussing fake passport spam that had been left there:

"We think we've been able to curb this. We've added a hidden field to the comment section that gets filled out when a spam bot leaves a comment and wipes the comment out. Most of these are from before that........and you are right, no notification. We've been going through and targeting certain phrases (think "buy viagra") and deleting comments that have these phrases. Looks like "Fake Passport" needs to be added to that query.

Unfortunatlely Bob's old post  http://activerain.com/blogsview/633408/reblogging-whoops-there-it-is-#12484847

got hit with spam after he wrote the comment.  Last date of spam on Bob's old post and my old post was September 14, 2012.

So no I am not getting notice of spam comments.  I found 452 comment spams on the one post.  Earlier this week I found four on one post and maybe six on another post.  I want to say the most recent spam was a day old but other was dated earlier.   I was not looking for the spam.  I found it by accident.

Do you still get 10 points for reporting a spam comment even it is an old post?  Wow-that would be 4,520 points extra on the one post alone!!!!!

You get points for reporting them on old posts but not for reporting 452.  Or I did not.  Maybe there is a 10 per day limit?  I should have spread it out?  Do you know how many clicks that is?

Those large blocks of spam seem to be popping up from time to time and they're really annoying.  I turned off outside comments so I don't get them.

Oh, this was a surprise.  Yes, this was in Russian, so I thought you would feel better knowing that it was not something obnoxious.

I went to the very end, and checked my first blog, and no, there were no spam comment on it. It was 2007, and what is interesting, on my 4th blog post in October Dare to be sexy? one of the comments is from you. So, we "know" each other since October 2007, wow.

This is more than 5 years...

Hmm, would it be a good idea to go back and edit so that you disable comments, thus leaving it still on AR but blocking all and any comments?

With old posts commenting is not an issue anyway.

Bryan wrote "I turned off outside comments so I don't get them."  I turned off non member  comments  temporarily but will turn comments back on once I feel like I have the spam under control. The treasure for me in blogging are comments from real people. Although they are few and far between the value outweighs the chance of spam for me. I just wish we were getting notice of spam comments. The thing I hate about ActiveRain are the members crappy "Great post thanks for sharing comments.  Blah, blah, blah enough characters to get points" comments from people who have not read the posts.  And shouldn't bother to read hyperlocal content.  The  feigned interest and generic comments leave me cold.

I got notice of your comments.  I just don't get notice of the spam comments.

Jon Thanks for letting me know what it says.

I found spam on an old post earlier today so I closed the post to all comments. I do not remember when the post was from but it was a market report. The funky spam on it was from May 2012, it was just gibberish.  There are recent market report posts that someone legit can comment on something newer.

There is a certain group of posts I will probably always leave open but old market reports I am going to try to close comments after 90 days or something like that unless AR starts sending notification again on spam comments.  There are some AR members who do pretty much the same thing as the bot spammers.  Paul Iforgethislastname with Prudential  in San Diego comments the same  cut and paste thing on 10 posts usually about snow or cold weather, something about Sunny San Diego.

I will have to go look at your post.

Amazing the number of spam comments a single post can get! I am going to try and find the time to see if some of my old posts are home to spammers!  BTW, love your market updates even though I can't leave a comment on them I do read them!

Thanks Gary. I open my marketing report posts up for comments after a few hours if I remember.  Only the last one will usually be closed to keep the cut and paste member comments off.

Have you seen the member who cuts and pastes

"Excellent information I will forward it if that is ok? thank you!!!"

now?  Or has someone cut and paste in that comment for him on featured posts?

I openend non member comments for a short time last week and got at least one spam comment right away so non member comments had to be closed.
