The Happiest Job On Earth

Disneyland may be “the happiest place on earth” but if you’re looking for the happiest job and you’re a real estate agent, look no further. You’ve got it, according to Forbes and Careerbliss, you are already among the world’s happiest people. It makes sense, really, that the jobs are rated happiest of those with the highest levels of control and autonomy. Conversely, jobs like associate attorney and customer service associate rank as the unhappiest jobs – those with the least amount of self-direction and control.

With an index score of 4.26, real estate agents said they are more than satisfied with the control they have over the work they do on a daily basis. They’re also fairly content with their bosses. “Real estate agents have definitely weathered quite a financial storm over the past few years but right now rates are between 2% and 3% and inventory is low, making it a real estate agents dream as new homes hit the market and are getting multiple offers in the first week,” Golledge says. “Right now, it is a seller’s market so the real estate agent’s cost of advertising and marketing is very low and commissions are high. Happy times.”

I'm much happier some days than others though, there's a bit of a roller coaster aspect to this business that makes it difficult for many people to handle Dave.

Dave, interesting blog.  In the seller's market we are currently in, real estate is a challenge.  I don't have time to be happy.

Dave,

You are correct control is an important factor in perceived perceived happiest.

I think another part is what psychologist call "locus of Control".  Meaning how much control a person thinks they have  (internal locus of control) compared to how much  a person thinks things are out of your control ( external locus of Control).    So both control of your daily work schedule and feeling of larger control over your life.
