There have been a few posts of late that seem to want to convince me that I am a mere employee with a REAL JOB. See: Being a Real Estate Agent is a REAL Job
I dispute that. IMO, being a real estate agent is
HA! If real estate sales is a real job, I'd probably never have lasted to become a real estate broker.
First. There would be the matter of age discrimination. Even some ActiveRain members believe that many of us, especially women, who have achieved a certain age, not sure what it is, should be put out to pasture. HA! I'll outwork any of them any day.
Second. No employer would tolerate my hours: begin a 5:00 a.m., work until about Noon, then off to either do chores or go to the trap range, visit with friends/family, shop, attend CE, etc. Back at 5:00 p.m. Work for another 3 hours. Off at 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. (last night until 9:30 p.m. working on a closing for the 30th of April)

Sure, real estate sales persons are employed by real estate companies/brokers. However, they rarely have a JOB DESCRIPTION as would be expected for "real jobs". The INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR AGREEMENT is for the purpose of permitting the agent/broker to work without qualifying under IRS as an "employee". That said, the agent can usually make their own hours, arrange their own required CE and generally manage their own "business", which includes BUSINESS GENERATION, hardly a job.
There's more. NO! I don't have a job, don't want one. I am the sole proprietor, BROKER/OWNER of a real estate company.
All real estate licensees have the same opportunity. If you're a real estate licensed SALES PERSON or what ever it's called in your state, you have an OPPORTUNITY to advance your status in the industry to that of Associate Broker or BROKER/OWNER of a real estate company.
BROKER/OWNER OF A REAL ESTATE COMPANY IS THE BEST "NON-JOB" IN THE COUNTRY.
