Broker Law

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8 hours a day for two consecutive weekends; grueling!  "Drinking from a fire hose" as my instructor puts it. But the law class is not only required for the broker exam and license, it is a way to be more aware of what I can and can not do when my client is in a situation that requires more.   Awareness doesn't mean practicing law with out a license. It does mean knowing when your client should consult an attorney and when the laws on the books can shed light on a situation and save a deal, all to your client's benefit.

The class was facilitated by and old Jersey boy who found his way to Kentucky; there's proof of a higher power.  As a young child we lived right out side of Newark and I still have family in that area.  I am used to the attitude and communication style; some of my colleagues were not.  Unfortunately they may have missed the message because of the messenger.  My review of the instructor was honest.  I felt that he was very knowledgeable and prepared.  It was good to get a different perspective of the industry as a whole like I do on AR.  He has worked with national players and I felt fortunate to have his insight.  I also look forward to his next class.

Unfortunately the class is just touched the surface of the subject (to help you pass the license exam).  I aspire to be a principal broker one day.  As a principal broker, I feel it necessary to enlighten my agents on more of the law than I am currently exposed to.  Not to scare them or bog them down, but to expand there horizons and hopefully help them to increase their business. I believe that if we put ourselves out there as professionals and ask our clients to accept the fees we charge, we owe it to them to be as knowledgeable and well trained as possible.
