If the Trust is Gone, So Are You...
It's Crucial Not to Lose It
Gaining a client's trust is hard. They don't know you, they just know what your prices are and what you are selling. In order for them to trust you, you must show them something other than what've they already seen.
It's a tight rope we have to walk in this business so that everything goes as smoothly as possible.
However, when we finally get it, there's nothing more rewarding than finding the product that perfectly suits your clients' needs. They put their trust in you, so it's up to you to make sure they're taken care of. Not delivering on what you promised, however, can spell disaster for all those involved.
Trust is already one of those things that is hard to earn but the easiest to lose. It's our responsibility to create trust, foster it and continue to be worthy of it.
Having said that, here's what we can DO to obtain and nurture our clients' trust:
- Do call them just to see how they're doing.
- Do take an interest in their life, not just their business.
- Do be friendly and approachable (and a human being).
However, here's what we DON'T do to obtain and nurture our clients' trust:
- Don't make promises you can't keep.
- Don't over advertise your skills (demonstrate them).
- Don't underplay your weaknesses (fix them).
It all seems easy enough but it goes a long way. Business deals are part of our job but it doesn't mean that we have to be a robot to be successful at them. Put your best foot forward and remember: respect is earned, make sure you earn it.
