If You Won't Like The Comments, Don't Publish Your Blog Post

Last time I checked, we still have the right to free speech in this country.

I recently left a comment here on Active Rain on someone's politically slanted blog post. The author of the post and I do not share the same opinion about a political figure.

When I went back this morning to follow up and read other's comments, I noticed that my comment had been deleted.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Shame on the author.

Or maybe this isn't the right forum for political venting in the first place?

This is so true Lorrie!  If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!  And like you stated, if you don't want to hear all comments, whether you like them or not, then you shouldn't post a statement.  Yes, it's true - We still have the Freedom of Speech - thank GOD!

Hello Lorrie. I think it depends on the tone. There are those who write politically all the time, but respect others right to disagree. Then there are those who find it necessary to be rude or nasty. That has no place here and on the few occasions it has happened to me, I deleted the comments. Not my job to be abused here or anywhere.

Like Sheila, I only delete the comments if they are really rude or nasty.  If it is simply a disagreement with my point of view, I'm a big girl and should not post something that I don't want to be criticized for.

Tacky!  We live in polarizing times, and political discussions can get heated.  But unless the comment is personally insulting, libelous, or vulgar, I will let it stand.

Lorrie, I've posted blog posts where there have been a handful of bloggers that don't agree with my point of view but never have I thought to delete them, it's childish to do so. If your comment bothered the person then they should've disabled comments and be done with it. Sorry to hear this happened to you!

Graziella: Or disable the ability to leave comments.

Sheila: The tone of the post, or the tone of the comments? It was the tone of the post I found offensive.

Marnie: The only posts I delete are the spam posts.

Fred: Agreed!

Phil: We should be able to RESPECTFULLY disagree.

I wouldn't waste my time commenting on offensive posts. That's different than an offensive comment. Just saying.......

Sheila: Without dissent, the author is likely to think everyone agrees and that's just not the case.
