2013 Johns Creek GA Founders Day Celebrations
In December 2006 our city changed it's name from Alpharetta to Johns Creek. Actually we were in the unincorporated area of North Fulton County GA and called ourselves Alpharetta because we used that post office address. Living in an unincorporated area of the county is the worst case because you pay the taxes but have no representation.
Well the people in this area had enough of that and formed our own city, the city of Johns Creek Georgia. We are really proud of our new city and have a week long Founders Day celebration every year that brings together the whole community. 2013 will be Johns Creek's 7th anniversary!
2013 Johns Creek Founders Day Parade
The highlight of the Founders Day celebrations is the Founders Day Parade which will be Saturday December 7th beginning at 10 AM. I have attended this parade for several years and it is really something that people enjoy being in and watching from the sidelines.
This year's Founders Day parade will have several high school marching bands. These bands are excellent stopping and putting on a show several times during the parade. Here is a short video of a band I took from last year's parade.
Besides our excellent high school bands, this year there are special entries to include the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable Band, the Atholl Highlanders Pipes and Drums of Stone Mountain (where they have the Georgia Highland Games), the knights and maidens from Medieval Times riding their horses and other special guests.
Of course just enjoyable is the many floats and the people riding the floats that make up the majority of the Johns Creek community parade. They are waiving and tossing candy to the children all along the way. The parade appeals to people of all ages, and this year is one of our senior activities. I will get to participate this year by riding the Park Place (Active Adult) trolley in the parade. I need to practice my waving. Hope to see you there!
