Kamaaina Motors Review

While most of my vehicle purchases in the past have been pleasant, my dealings with Kamaaina Motors has been far from that.

Last summer I purchased a 2012 Dodge Durango.  While it seemed to fit my needs as far as size and layout, I had problems with it from the start.  When it would downshift it would give a little "jarring" feel and was not too smoth.  I just let it go as it did not seem like a big deal.  About a month later the hinges on the back lift gate went out so it would not stay up.  I called Kamaaina Motors in Hilo where I purchased it from and they asked for me to bring it in.  We drove over there and they ordered the part under warranty.  We went back a week later and they had ordered the wrong part.  We had to then go back a week later to have it fixed.  A few months after that on my way to work the check engine light came on.  Luckily I made it to work where it died.  It has to be towed to the Kamaaina Motors Kona where it was held for weeks so they could change the cylinders on it.  It seemed to be OK for the few months following that, but the "jarring" when it shifts gears seemed to get worse.  Eventually the remote control locks quit working, which was not a big deal.  Then the support for the driver side seat broke.  Then the automatic windows quit working on the passenger side....all while the "jarring" continued to get worse.  I decided to take it in again to Kamaaina Motors Kona.  They ordered parts and asked me to come back in two weeks.  They fixed the driver side seat, the passenger side windows, and the keyless entry.  They asked to go on a test drive for the "jarring".  They noticed it, but reported that is nothing out of the normal.  I then contacted Dodge regarding it and they asked me to take it to Kamaaina Motors Kona again.  So another trip to Kamaaina Motors and another test drive.  This time the jarring was more consistent and a little worse.  Kamaaina Motors said that that was typical for a Dodge Durango.  Little did they know that I had test drove a 2013 and a 2014 Dodge Durango prior to going there.  When I told them it does not seem to do it on their 2013 and 2014 Dodge Durangos, the response from the Kamaaina Motors service rep was, "It only does it on 2012 Dodge Durangos and it is normal".  I was stunned at that comment, but at least thought Dodge may not like that.  I called Dodge and they said they can do nothing because Kamaaina Motors reported that it was not doing anything wrong.  To say the least after over 10 trips to Kamaaina Motors in my first year of owning a new 2012 Dodge Durango I am very disappointed in Kamaaina Motors and Dodge.

To sum things up Kamaaina Motors had no problem in taking my money and wasting my time, but did nothing for me after that.  I felt at minimum they could have made the call to Dodge to see if we could do something about my vehicle since there were so many issues.

Unless you potentially want an experience like mine, I would highly recommend against buying anything from Kamaaina Motors.  You could get lucky and not have any issues after you purchase your vehicle, but if you do you will be out of luck with Kamamaina Motors.

2/9 Update- My Dodge Durango just quit working on my again at work today.  It was towed in again.  The module for the fuel pump is out.
