Egress issues with the home. Desert Sun Home inspections Carlsbad, NM.

Inspecting homes can be a very interesting job to say the least.

With safety in mind first and foremost when inspecting. You can't help but get that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when we find safety issues like these.

Means of egress.

All homes have to have means of egress. This is a way to escape the home in case the home has a fire or other related disaster where someone needs to bail out a window of the home.

Heaven forbid this ever happens for any home owner. But it does happen way to often.

This is why it is so critical for the occupants to have a way to escape the home without having to break out the glass pane in a window.

Take a look at the homes windows. They are caulked shut. Entire window top and bottom sash.

All of the windows in this Three bedroom home was caulked shut.

Saving energy.

Saving energy is one thing. But when the safety of the occupant is put at risk. Never a good thing.

I recommended the caulking be removed and the windows be treated for energy efficiency.

I hope the person who doe's the work won't mar up the good looking finish and trim work on all the windows.

Replace the windows and eliminate the issue. Plus keep safety front and center.

Breaking the window is the only option when you need to get out quickly in case of a fire.

Not a good way to have to open the windows.

Those windows are energy efficient now!  These people are doing their part in saving the planet!  Don't you know that without that caulking the planet will die?  I mean die!

Get real.  You home inspectors don't understand how important this is.
