Fear of doing the wrong thing when buying a home

Fear vs. Logic when buying Real Estate

For many people buying real estate is the biggest purchase of their lives.  It can be a very scary process to go through.  Usually it’s the first time home buyer that can be consumed by fear.  But I have seen people who have purchased multiple properties get nervous when working through the buying process.  I have purchased four homes in my life.  Each time I have been a little nervous even though I do this for a living.

What we can do to help

What I try and do with my clients is ask them to make their decisions through logic, not fear.  Make sure they have a logical reason for doing something or not doing something.  Are they not making offers because they are afraid of the home buying process?  Are they afraid of being responsible for everything that goes on with the home?  Are they afraid they will not be able to make the payments?  The list goes on and on.  I always try and take the fear factor out of the decision making.

When I sense that my clients are getting anxious, I share with them my own personal story of home purchases and some of the fears that I experienced.  I also remind them that when they own the home, they can paint the living room any color they want.  The bottom line is that people purchase homes all the time, this is nothing new.
